KHERSON, OCTOBER 21st, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Kherson Shipyard has commenced the construction of a tanker for SVL Group of Companies, Malata, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The keel-laying ceremony was held today, 21 October.

“This is a unique project. All that Ukrainian shipyards doing is either upgrading or hull construction. The only shipbuilding plant today to have started complete shipbuilding is Kherson Shipyard”, said Director General Vasily Fedin of Kherson Shipyard.

The project has been designed by Marine Engineering Bureau, Odesa. The cost of the order is not disclosed.

The tanker is designed for mixed (river-sea) transportation of bulk crude oil and petroleum products including gasoline, with no fire temperature limit, ensuring the carriage of goods at 60°C. The vessel also allows simultaneous transportation of two types of goods.

Hull length — 140.85 m, width — 16.86 m, draught — 6 m.

Dead weight in the river at 3.6 meters draft is 5378 tons, dead weight at sea at 4.2 meters draft is 6980 tons.

The ship complies with the requirements of international conventions and environmental safety.
