Cargo turnover at the port of Kherson for 8 months exceeded 2.3 million tons

KHERSON, 6 SEPTEMBER 2016, CONTEXT-Prichernomorie -- In January-August total turnover of stevedoring companies operating in the port of Kherson, it was 2 million 384.6 thousand tons, the correspondent of IA «Context-Prichernomorie» reports.

It was reported to the agency today, on September 6, by the press service of the SE «Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority».

The press service reported that, according to operative data, the total turnover at the port in 8 months reached 2 million 384.6 thousand tons, up 98.9% compared to January-August 2015, when the turnover of goods amounted to 2 million 411.8 thousand tons.

Liquid cargo during this period in the port handled 99.3 thousand tons (291.8% in January-August 2015); bulk dry cargo — 1 million 851.98 thousand tons (110.2%); unitized cargo — 433.32 thousand tons (62.2%).

REFERENCE: The Port of Kherson was founded in 1778 with the shipyard and fortress, which had become the basis for the future of the Black Sea Fleet. In 1901, after 30 years of interruption due to dredging, the port is re-opened, and Kherson became one of the most important ports exporting Ukrainian grain.

The port is located on the right bank of the Dnieper river, 15 km from its mouth. The approach to the port is carried out on the fairway passing by Grabber river, arm Olkhovy Dnieper and the Dnieper river itself.

The port is navigable all year round.
