Japanese and Polish companies to survey the polygon of hard wastes in Mykolaiv fur further utilization of bio-gas

MYKOLAIV, AUGUST, 13th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Yesterday, 12 August, Mayor of Mykolaiv Volodymyr Chaika and representatives of Polish and Japanese companies Asuka Green Investment, Polska Grupa Energetychna, Carbon Risk Management Partners и Termal signed a three-party agreement on surveying the polygon of hard wastes in Mykolaiv fur further utilization of bio-gas, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

This was stated at the meeting of Mykolaiv Mayor with representatives of Japanese and Polish companies.

Based on the three-party Protocol of Intentions the Japanese and Polish companies held a tender to select a company that will hold survey drilling and analyze chemical composition of the bio-gas on the junkyard of Mykolaiv.

A Polish company – Termal won the tender. They will do the drilling of 14 wells, pump out the bio-gas from there to be able to indicate what the proportion of methane in this gas is.

These results will be given to the Polish company Polska Grupa Energetychna and to the Japanese company Asuka Green Investment by 2010.

If there is enough methane at the polygon of Mykolaiv, Mykolaiv Mayor's office shall sign an investment agreement with the Japanese and the Polish companies.

According to the preliminary calculations, this project is evaluated 1,5 million EUR, at the same time, the price of the survey works in Mykolaiv is evaluated 250 thousand EUR.

According to Polska Grupa Energetychna, this project corresponds to the Kyoto Protocol. It is a well-known fact Ukraine and Poland are among the countries to have signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. During the project’s implementation the investors will receive the reduction, methane, the Japanese party will be able to buy Ukrainian methane emission quota, and Mykolaiv will get the junkyard brought in order meeting European standards and requirements.
