Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant successfully exploiting Westinghouse fuel assemblies

MYKOLAIV, FEBRUARY 11th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant on Feb. 5 cut off the third block of the power system of Ukraine for major planned maintenance, reported the press service of state-owned enterprises NNEGC Energoatom on Friday, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency has been informed about it at the press service of the plant.

According to their information, during the repair campaign is planned to load in the reactor core 42 fuel assemblies (FAs) produced by the campaign Westinghouse, clarified the agency Interfax-Ukraine in the department of Public Relations and Media of the plant.

As reported, Energoatom from 2005 on the third power unit of the Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP is testing fuel production of Westinghouse, which is located in the reactor, together with Russia’s assemblies. In August 2005, the active zone of the third power of the Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP have been downloaded the first six experimental fuel assemblies production of Westinghouse.

In September 2009, Westinghouse transferred Energoatom 42 fuel assemblies for loading into the reactor of the third power of the Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP.

The sole supplier of fuel for nuclear power plant in Ukraine is currently Russia’s concern TVEL, with which NNEGC in 1997 signed a contract for the supply of fresh nuclear fuel for Ukrainian WMR all until 2010.
