Over a ton of cocaine detained in Odesa Port

The result of thorough examination of concrete constructions at Odesa Commercial Sea port was that 1 thousand 192 kilos 950 grams of cocaine had been found at Odesa Commercial Sea Port by the Security Service of Ukraine and Customs officers.
According to the SSU press service, heavy drug contraband channels smuggling cocaine from Latin America to Europe, have been liquidated. This is due to direct measures that have suspended the activities of organized international criminal groups.
The SSU’s special operation was being carried out on the territory of Odesa, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Oblasts in cooperation with the State Customs Service of Ukraine, General Prosecutor’s Office and foreign partners.
In mid July two containers arrived in Odesa from Venezuela carrying two used induction casting furnaces. The result of thorough examination of concrete constructions at Odesa Commercial Sea port was that 1 thousand 192 kilos 500 grams of cocaine had been found (12 million doses) packed in 1200 briquettes.
The estimated value of the drugs equals to USD 180 million.
The consignee is a commercial organization of Ivano-Frankivsk. The stated firm has recently been accredited at the customs service, and this was their first foreign trade operation that caused suspect of the law enforcement bodies this company might have been created specially for carrying out criminal activities.
With the approval of the General Prosecutor’s Office, the SSU decided to carry out a controlled provision of the drugs in order to detect the parties involved and suspen their illegal activities. As the result 5 people have been arrested. They are suspected of committing the stated crime (citizens of Russia, Germany, Bulgaria and two Ukrainian nationals).
Criminal procedures are underway.
As the Context-Prichernomorie reported before, the weight of the confiscated at Odesa Port lot of contraband drugs made 582.35 kilos
Before that the SSU had confiscated over 190 kilos of drugs at the Port of Odesa.
