Lithuanian experts made a presentation to the heads of local self-government

Odessa, 26 AUGUST 2016, CONTEXT-Prichernomorie — Latvian experts made a presentation to the heads of local self-government on the theme: «The development of local communities in Latvia», the correspondent of IA «Context-Prichernomorie» reports.

It was reported to the agency today, August 26, in the Department of Information of the Odessa regional Council.

As noted in the press service, at the regional Council was made the presentation to the heads of local government of Odessa region on the theme: «The development of local communities in Latvia». Latvian experts said about the experience of implementing administrative-territorial reform, focused on the adoption of legal documents, the development and provision of methodological assistance to territorial communities in the implementation of the administrative reform.

According to the director of the Government Department of Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Republic of Latvia Arnis Schultz, at the beginning of reforms in Latvia, there were 590 municipalities.

«The process of decentralization in Latvia, included a number of specific reforms, in particular in 1994, legal, financial, which ran from 1995 to 1998, and only after that the administrative-territorial, which lasted 11 long years (1998-2009), however, produced its results», — said Mr. Schultz.

As previously reported IA «Context-Prichernomorie», the head of the regional Сouncil A. Urbansky to exchange experiences, held a meeting with a delegation from Latvia. The participants exchanged views on concrete ways of cooperation in the implementation of the administrative-territorial reform and decentralization of power in Odessa region.
