Exhibition about Odesa to open in Marseilles

ODESA, OCTOBER 12th, 2012, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― The permanent exhibition about Odesa will be presented in Marseille, France, in the newly opened Museum of Civilisations from Europe and the Mediterranean, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Odesa City Council Information Office reported today, 12 October.

According to the Office, the twin city of Odesa, Marseille will be the European Capital of Culture in 2013. The largest ethnographic centre of the Old World ― the Museum of Civilisations from Europe and the Mediterranean will be opened. The municipality of Marseille will establish the permanent exhibition “Ways of Odesa” to the 40th Anniversary of the relations between Odesa and Marseille.

A discussion of the establishment of a permanent exhibition in Marseille museum was held between the representatives of two cities in September in the framework of the official visit of Odesa delegation led by the Deputy Mayor of Odesa Elena Pavlova to France. In October, the representatives of the French side (Director of the Museum of Civilisations from Europe and the Mediterranean Bruno Suzzarelli, curator of the exhibition “Ways of Odesa” of the Museum of Civilizations from Europe and Mediterranean, Professor of the Paris Sorbonne University Francis Conte, and the director of the French Cultural Centre Alliance Française in Odesa Sylvain Bano) paid a return visit to Odesa.

According to Mrs Pavlova the permanent exhibition of Odesa will be fully formed and opened in 2014.

In the framework of this occasion, a lot of cultural events will be held in Odesa. Such as the festival of silent films and early sound films made before or after 1917, at the Odesa Film Studio, the festival of non-Soviet films about Odesa, the festival of Odesa cuisine in Marseille, and a series of bright art and photographic exhibitions, scientific meetings and discussions will took place.
