M/V Beriks to be repaired in Odesa Port to leave it afterwards
Aug 03 2009, 13:45

ODESA, AUGUST, 3rd, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE Deputy Head of State Administration for Sea and River Transport Viktor Sudarev stated M/V Beriks would be repaired in Odesa Port to leave it afterwards, Context0Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Mr. Sudarev stated it today, 3 August, at a press-conference.

For the crew of the vessel refused to fulfil their functional obligations and to accept supplies of fuel, food and water onboard, the Commission has made a decision on the Cabinet level to pilot the ship into the port of Odesa for providing her with technical repair facilities and servicing for her to be able to be further used by the ship-owners. As of today, the owner of the cargo and the charterer is known though he disappeared from the zone of contact with the ports authorities. We hope the proper law enforcement bodies will look into the problem. The ship-owner is present, and is in contact with all authorities. The crew was provided with everything they needed. The repair will be carried out at the ship-owners request, — Mr. Sudarev said.

The vessel is absolutely normal, it does not stink at all the refrigerating machine is working properly, it is in absolutely normal operation regime. The meet is frozen; its in the frozen state. The vessel has never been stinky, there is just a little misunderstanding of the local authorities and a slight hysteria raised by the media. It brings no harm to the residents, — he added.
