Odessa and Ilyichivsk ports handle 29% of ferrous metals cargo last year
Feb 25 2015, 19:13

ODESSA, FEBRUARY 25th, 2015, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Odessa and Ilyichivsk sea ports have handled 29% of the total handling cargo of ferrous metals in the ports of Ukraine, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of the Administration of the Ports of Ukraine noted today, 25 February.

According to the information, the segment of ferrous metals cargo decreased the handling of 5.4% at the sea ports. In foreign markets Ukraine suffered losses from sales of metal, not only related to the reduction of production, but with a reduction in the cost of goods produced in China.

In this case, there is no hope for increase of the export before the end of the year, as the work of the metallurgical complex of the country is partially blocked. Because of war eight metallurgical enterprises in Donetsk and Lugansk regions stopped today, among them are Stakhanov Ferroalloy Plant, Makeyevka and Yenakiyevo Steel Plants, Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant, Donetsk Steel Mill, Elektrostal and Donetsk Metallurgical Plant.

Odessa Port in 2014 handled 4 million 443 thousand 12 tons of ferrous metals — 23% of the total handling of all ports of Ukraine.

Also 1 million 84 thousand 500 tons handled Ilyichivsk sea port that was 6% of the total transshipment of the country.
