Odessa, 13 JANUARY 2017, CONTEXT-Prichernomorie — Minister of infrastructure Vladimir Omelyan, who accompanied the President on a trip to Odessa region, Jan 12, presented to the staff of the Administration of seaports of Ukraine's new acting head of the enterprise, the correspondent of IA «Context-Prichernomorie» reports.

It was reported to the agency today, January 13, in the press-service of the SE «Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority».

The acting Chairman of SE «USPA» appointed Raivis Veckagans.

During the presentation, V. Omelyan noted that the new head has complete freedom of action for the reform of USPA and the fight against corruption: «I insist that USPA needs to be reformed and transformed into a transparent and efficient company that works for the state and defends the state, not private interest. In this section Raivis Veckagans has complete freedom of action».

The Minister also noted that the change of leadership of USPA is «the first step in reforming the Maritime industry».

«We started the reform, and already there is some resistance. This is normal. If the Minister is comfortable for all, it calls into question its effectiveness. But I emphasize: the state interest and state control over state enterprises should be above private interests. I defend and will defend this approach», — said Vladimir Omelyan.

According to the Ministry of infrastructure, the citizen of Latvia R. Veckagans has over 16 years of experience and success in managing companies in the sector of transport and logistics, shipping and financial services. He has held positions as Board member, Vice-President of the Latvian shipping company, a Board member of the largest port terminal for handling bulk and general cargoes in the Baltic States Rigas Centralais Terminals, Chairman of the Board, Riga Container Terminal LLC.
