Commissioning of the RSD49 ship designed in Odesa takes place at Onega Shipyard, Russia

ODESA, MAY 22nd, 2012, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― The commissioning of the RSD49 ship designed by Marine Engineering Bureau, Odesa, has taken place at Onega Shipyard, Russia, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of Marine Engineering Bureau informed today, 22 May.

According to the press service, on May 20 Onega shipyard lowered the head multipurpose dry cargo vessel RSD49 with a deadweight of 7150 tons.

The RSD49 series of ships is being constructed by Neva Shipyard, the lead ship was laid down 14 December 2010, the operational launch of the hull was implemented 29 October 2011, after which the vessel was towed for completion at Onega in Petrozavodsk. Another five RSD49 ships (out of an overall ordered ten) are being constructed at Neva Plant.

The customer is JSC North-Western Shipping Company.

Court of the series can be used for the transportation of general, bulk, timber, grain and bulk cargoes, and a number of dangerous goods in the Caspian Sea and the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Baltic, White, North Sea, including flights around Europe and in the Irish Sea in winter.

The peculiarity of the vessel (in contrast to all other projects, Volga-Don max class created by the IIB) is a large middle 52 m long holds, which allows direct transportation of oversized project cargo, which should significantly affect the total financial result of work on Europe-Caspian route.

INFORMATION: OJSC Marine Engineering Bureau was registered on March, 23rd, 1995 in Odesa, Ukraine. It was founded by a group of scientists of the Shipbuilding Department, Odesa National Maritime University. OJSC Marine Engineering Bureau works out pre-contract classification projects, projects of “conversion”, upgrade and renewal of sea vessels for internal and mixed journeys. They also prepare projects for increasing carrying and container capacities of ships and other related work.
