Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard lays lead ship under Project RST27

ODESA, SEPTEMBER 1st, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Shipyard Krasnoye Sormovo, Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia, has laid the lead ship under Project RST27 developed by Marine Engineering Bureau, Odesa, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

MIB’s press service reported today, 1 September.

According to their information, Red Sormovo laid the lead Volga-Don Max tanker under Project RST27 for VF Tanker Shipping.

Project RST27 was developed by Marine Engineering Bureau, Odesa. The vessel’s contours, the product of research conducted in 2010, were created using methods of computational fluid mechanics (CFD simulation) and the model was tested at the experimental pool in Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute.

In comparison with other projects of the Bureau, tanker RST27 has enhanced river function, increased to 700 tons deadweight in the river (when compared to the Armada) while maintaining the increased capacity of the cargo tanks and ruggedized housing.

The RST27 vessels meet the Volga-Don Canal and Volga-Baltic way standards. Overall length is 140.85 m, breadth — 16.6 m, depth — draught m.

Project RST27 was designed to carry crude oil and petroleum products with no limit on flash point.

The capacity of six cargo tanks and two slop tanks is equal to 8100 cubic meters, deadweight at sea — 6 thousand 980 tons with a draught of 4.2 m, in the river with a daught of 3.60 m — 5 thousand 378 tons, operation speed — 10 knots. Crew — 12 people, human carrying cpapcity — 14 + pilot.

Red Sormovo is to build a total of ten RST27 tankers.

INFORMATION: OJSC Marine Engineering Bureau was registered on March, 23rd, 1995 in Odesa, Ukraine. It was founded by a group of scientists of the Shipbuilding Department, Odesa National Maritime University. OJSC Marine Engineering Bureau works out pre-contract classification projects, projects of “conversion”, upgrade and renewal of sea vessels for internal and mixed journeys. They also prepare projects for increasing carrying and container capacities of ships and other related work.
