The ministry of transport develops the projects of new marine transport mains involving the ports of Odesa Oblast

ODESA, OCTOBER 12th, 2010, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine has developed the projects of new marine transport mains involving the ports of Odesa Oblast, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency has been informed about it today 12 October at the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine.

According to their information, the plans as to creating the new transport mains involving the ports of Odesa Oblast were presented at the first investment forum of ТRАСЕСА member countries, the forum began its work yesterday, 11 October. Ukraine is represented at the forum be deputy minister of transport Oleh Bondar.

During the first day of the forum Ukrainian party presented a pilot project suggesting establishing a new RO-RO line connecting the ports of Odesa and Haydarpaşa, Turkey. This project is meant to satisfy the needs of Turkish auto transporters supplying their commodities to the EU. The creation of a new corridor will provide a possibility of developing direct bilateral trade and increase the transit via Odesa port.

In addition, they presented plans as to creating a new main for passenger transportations between the ports of Odesa and Yalta, as well as the ports of Burgas (Bulgaria), Piraeus (Greece), Poti-Batumi (Georgia). The aim of this project is to establish communication between the Black Sea and Mediterranean regions.

The participants of the meeting suggested upgrade of the marine line Odesa — Samsun, Turkey — Poti, Georgia. This will let re-organize the cargo flows of the automobile transport of Europe, Turkey and Caucasus to marine transport.

The last project was suggested by Ukrainian party — to create a container line Varna (Bulgaria) — Illichivsk — Kerch — Poti. The infrastructure of the ports is to be reorganized as well and the amount of operations at this route to be reduced.
