ODESSA, APRIL, 10TH, 2008, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Basic works of «Danube — Black sea» deep-water channel construction are set to be finished this year, “Context-Prichernomorie” correspondent reports.

The agency was informed about this today, on April, 10th, by Joseph Vinsky, minister of transport and communication of Ukraine during the press conference

«We plan to finish basic works on this channel this year. Unfortunately, the last year was insufficiently successful in this aspect. Now all the questions connected with financing are solved, the head of the organization who has not coped with this problem was replaced. And we plan to finish all the works connected with the channel up to the end of the year, there will be only works held on an accomplishment and maintenance of the ecological aspects connected with this channel», — J.Vinsky has informed.

According to minister, nearly 140 million hrn is allocated this year on the channel construction.

INFORMATION: Basic characteristics of the Deep-water ship course «Danube-Black sea»: the general length — 172,2 km, Deep-water ship course line on natural channels: port Reni — Izmailsky Chatal — length 44,1 km; Izmailsky Chatal — port Vilkovo — length 98 km; port Vilkovo — Black sea (through Starostambulsky and Bustry branches) — length 17 km. Vessel traffic — round-the-clock, bilateral and adjusted (for comparison: vessel traffic on the Romanian channels is unilateral and only in the daytime). Navigation is renewed in April, 2007.

A thousandth vessel has been accepted by the channel on March, 6th.
