NIKOLAEV, OCTOBER, 30TH, 2008, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – The freight turnover of Nikolaev sea commercial port made 8 mln to by today, IA “Context-Prichernomorie” correspondent reports.

This was reported to the agency today, on October 30th, in the press-service of the port.

During the past period of 2008 the port has handed 835 thousand t of grain goods, 701 thousand t of mazut and 1 mln 648 thousand t of fertilizers.

This is a record rate that exceeds annual results of freight turnover during the whole history of port existing not taking into account goods handling by port posts “Oktyabrsky”, “Ochakov” and Ozhar opencast mine that used to be a part of NSCP.

INQUIRY: Nikolaev sea commercial port was founded in 1862. NSCP specializes in transshipment of export and transit freights. The port territory covers 97.3 hectares.

The port is connected with the sea of Bug-Dnieper-estuary canal (BDEC). The length of the canal is 44 miles, the width is 100 m.

The access duct of the port is 13th bend of BDEC with 100 m width, 1520 m length and 11.2 m depth. Vessels with the length of 215 m and the draught of under 10.3 m can pass trough the canal.

The port has 15 berths with total length of 2962.2 m available, the length of the permanent way is about 25 km.

Mechanization means include 133 units of equipment. Port personnel number is about 2 thousand 700 people.
