Regular meeting of International Atomic Energy Agency starts at Yuzhnoukrainsk Powerplant

YUZHNOUKRAINSK, MARCH, 31st, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Regular meeting of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) started at Yuzhnoukrainsk Powerplant, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

PR department of Yuzhnoukrainsk Power Plant informed the agency about it today, 31 March.

The visit of the international experts has two aims – carrying out the OSART postmission checking exploitation safety at power unit No 3 and expert evaluation of the realization of the recommendations given by the OSART missions at other Ukrainian power plants.

The IAEA team will be working at the enterprise for two weeks – through 30 March – 10 April. The commission has in its staff experienced experts from Japan, France, Lithuania, and Italy. Their coordinator is Yuriy Martynenko, Head of their team.

The mission is held under the three-party agreement of Ukraine with the Eurocomission and IAEA, in compliance with it all Ukrainian power plants are to be examined for exploitation security.

The OSART postmission is and obligatory procedure, being done at all power stations, that passed the safety examination. In the course of the postmission it will be found out whether the recommendations of the eurocommisssion given after the primary commission are being fulfilled. YU PP specialists stressed not only obligatory recommendations were being fulfilled but all the suggestions expressed by the IAEA experts in 2006. Thus the personnel means to use completely the advice given by the best world experts.

South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant is the Nuclear power station South Ukraine is a nuclear power station in Ukraine. It is located near the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk in a town of Kostiantynivka of the Mykolaiv Oblast (province), approximately 350 kilometers (over 200 miles) south of the capital Kiev. This nuclear power station has three reactors and a net achievement of 2,850 megawatts (MW). It is at present the second largest of the five nuclear power stations in the country.
