Two parts of the levee in the barrier coast line of the Bystroye Estuary now joined

MYKOLAIV, MARCH, 31st, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – In the Bystroye Estuary, the Danube – Black Sea Canal, the two parts of the levee in the barrier coast line were joined, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency was informed about it at the GE Delta-Pilot, today, 31 March.

One of the parts of the levee was erected in 2004 by a German company Josef Mobius, its length is 400 m.

The other part was built by Azovmekh within the last five months and 27 March as of the moment of joining its total length made 1670 m.

The joining of the “Ukrainian” part with the “German” one insured the North-East hollow was completely blocked.

After the construction is finished the total length of the levee will make 2 thousand 830 m. But already built over two thousand m will protect the canal from the alluvium.

According to Director of GE Delta-Pilot, Alexadnr Golodnitskiy, the last 100 metres were the most difficult. Since the place of joining is almost on the axis of the Danube’s flow, the shorter the distance to the German part was, the stronger the stream became. After the parts have been joined the strengthening works are going on.

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko is planning to visit Odesa Oblast on the occasion of finishing the reconstruction of the Danube – Black Sea Canal.
