14:57 / 06.05.2009

ODESA, MAY, 06th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Presidential Envoy, Bohdan Sokolovskyi stated there was oil for Odesa-Brody pipeline obverse operation, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

As the agency was informed at the press-service of the President of Ukraine, Mr. Soklovskyi stated it today, 6 May commenting on the statement of the Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine, Yurii Prodan, saying there was no buyers or sellers of the oil so transported.

In particular Mr. Sokolovsyi reminded about numerous statements of the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev saying Azerbaijani party was ready to transport Caspian oil.

Mr. Sokolovsyi warned Yurii Prodan from suchlike statements since this way he even may provoke international conflict. “To say there is no oil, or no one to supply it whet the President of a respected, friendly to us country says many times there is oil, — what is this? What have we reached – when a minister does not agree– this is really nonsense – with the President, now he is spreading his competence (or executing someone’s order) on expressing distrust to the President of another state? May he think and shoe a little diplomacy?”, — the official said.

He also said, the technical assessment of EAOTC adopted in Warsaw 24 April gives exact analysis of the availability of spare oil deposits in Caspian region for short and average prospective as well demonstrating commercial and economic advantages of the route before a number of others.

“To make suchlike statements afterwards sounds strange at least”, — the Envoy finished.

As Context-Prichernomorie reported before, today, 6 May in Kyiv, Minster of Fuel and Energy, Yurii Prodan stated today there were neither sellers nor buyers of oil when Odesa-Brody pipeline functioning obversely. The Minister also reminded in 2008 the Ministry of Fuel and Energy sent all large oil suppliers, potential investors and final consumers offers of participation in the project. The replies have not been received.

President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko stated he demanded from the Cabinet to urgently set the Odesa-Brody pipeline functioning obversely as it had been primarily projected, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

“I realize what particular political reasons the Government had and still has to block such a decision. But I appeal today to the common sense and national interests. I am sure the government will find wisdom and courage to make the necessary decisions”, — President said.

Head of State reminded 9 April 2009, President of Azerbaijan stated again the country was ready to supply Caspian oil to satisfy Ukrainian and European markets including technical oil to provide operation of the Odesa-Brody pipeline.
