16:24 / 14.05.2009

MYKOLAIV, MAY, 14th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – State-Owned Company Delta-Pilot published Annual Bulletin of Sea Accidents 2008, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency was informed about it today, 14 May, at the press-service of GE Delta-Pilot.

This is already the fourth bulletin based on the investigations of the maritime accidents in 2008. The practice of publishing suchlike periodicals originated in 2006, when State Maritime Pilot Service analyzed the accidents that had happened the year before. Bulletin No 4 collected and analyzed all the accidents that had happened to Ukrainian and foreign vessels within Ukrainian territorial waters.

In 2008 the amount of accidents at sea decreased twice. In 2008 there were only 15 accidents. During the same period of 2007 there happened 27 accidents. The pilots of Delta-Pilot performed 63 thousand 719 pilot operations (in 2007 – 63 thousand). Technical characteristics of the vessels grew at that. Thus, in July, the largest of the entire history of the port container ship called in the port of Odesa. The vessel MOL MAAS (flag of Panama) had length 299,95 metres, width – 27,1 metres. The pilotage of such a big ship required high level of professionalism.

The materials collected in the Bulletin are studied thoroughly at technical trainings in the departments of pilot services in order to prevent accident in future.
