09:49 / 27.06.2009

OCHAKIV, JUNE, 27th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Lighter Marine Terminal of the Dnieper-Buh Basin will be built in Mykolaiv Port territorial waters near Ochakiv, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Mr. Vasiliy Kapatsyna, Head of Mykolaiv Merchant Sea Port reported it yesterday, 26 June at his press-conference.

According to Mr. Kapatsyna, this infrastructure project is in the Mykolaiv Merchant Sea Port Development Programme 2009-2012 approved by the Cabinet 5 June.

The project's expected value makes 1 milliard 162 million 300 thousand UAH, profitability term being 8,5 years.

This erection will let take the ports of the Dnieper-Buh Basin at the qualitatively new level. According to the preliminary calculations, their cargo turnover will grow to 20 million tons, counting river ports. This project is expected to revive the Dnieper’s navigation capacity. In addition the construction of the second branch Mykolaiv- Dolynska will increase cargo flows.

For the realization of the project it is necessary to provide 15 metres depth and make an entrance in the area of the first and the fourth bends of the Dnieper-Buh Lyman for Mykolaiv and Kherson to be able to operate PANAMAX vessels.

“A port incapable of operating PANAMAX vessels has no future. Having created the Lighter Terminal at the exit of Dnieper-Buh Lyman to the Black Sea having enough depth to operate PANAMAX vessels, good navigation and engineering conditions both Mykolaiv Merchant Sea Port and maritime complexes will be able to save their competitiveness in modern international navigation”, — Mr. Kapatsyna finished.
