MYKOLAIV, AUGUST, 3rd, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – 31 July there was a fire at Wadan Yards Okean – a shipbuilding plant in Mykolaiv, as the result one man died and one got injured, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency was informed about it today, 3 August at the Propaganda Centre Mykolaiv Oblast Office of the Ministry of Ukraine of Emergencies and Affairs of Population Protection from the Consequences of Chornobyl Catastrophe.

According to the Centre, 31 July, 2009 the dispatcher of Fire-Fighting Brigade for Protection of Wadan Yards Okean was informed of an emergency situation onboard M/V Spadina.

The brigade being on duty was immediately sent to the place of fire, and additional brigade was sent for assistance. It took approximately 20 minutes to localize and put out the fire in the ballast cistern of the vessel.

M/V Spadina is under repair at the plant. Her home port is Cambodia.

The reason of the fire is believed to have been violation of fire safety rules while operating with fire.

An investigation is being held.
