Cargo operations in Illichivsk Merchant Sea Port exceed 9 million tons in 7 months

ODESA, AUGUST, 4th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – The amount of cargo operations in Illichivsk Merchant Sea Port through 7 months of 2009 made 9 milllion 438 thousand tons, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency was informed about it today, 4 August, at the press-service of the port.

According to the press-service, the amount of cargo operations in July made 1 million 166 thousand tons. As compared with July 2007 the amount of cargo operations fell by 27,7 percent, including general cargoes by 46,8 percent, bulk cargoes – by 9,1 percent, and liquid cargoes increased by 212,5 percent.

Oil demonstrated the best growth tempo for July 2009 making +391,3 percent.

Within 7-month period the best growth tempo was demonstrated by grain and oil +118,7 percent and 78,8 percent respectively.

The greatest reduction was observed in the cargo flow of automobile equipment – in July – 97,8 percent in July and 85,5 percent within seven months.

Container operations in July reduced by 66,5 percent, within seven months – by 67,5 percent.

INFORMATION: Illichivsk Merchant Sea Port is one of the ‘youngest’ on the Black Sea. The Port was erected in the Soviet period in 1960s mainly for sea trade with socialistic countries. It has railway and vehicle approaches connected with the country’s mains. There are several operating ferry-crossings: Illichivsk–Varna (Bulgaria), Illichivsk–Poti and Illichivsk – Batumi (Georgia). Cargo operation complexes of the Port consisting of 28 berths having total length 5 thousand 500 metres are equipped with modern cargo-operating machinery.
