09:31 / 18.09.2009

MYKOLAIV, SEPTEMBER, 18th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – For the first time in Mykolaiv Zoo’s collection there appeared a couple of red-crowned, or so called Japanese cranes, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Director of the Zoo Vladimir Topchiy informed the agency about it today 18 September.

According to Mr. Topchiy, the birds arrived from the Russian State Biosphere Reserve having a crane nursery. These cranes have the status of rare and disappearing birds.

The species having arrived in Mykolaiv are young, they were born in 2007. The personnel of the zoo hope the birds will soon bear their descendants.

“Cranes are the largest birds of Eurasian fauna. Many peoples in the world regard them as a symbol of freedom and faith. Having organized a couple once they never separate”, Mr. Topchiy informed.
