The volume of cargo transshipments in Odesa Port falls 21.8 percent thru January-September 2009

ODESA, OCOTBER, 8th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — The volume of cargo transshipments in the Commercial Sea Port of Odesa has fallen 21.8 percent through the period of January-September 2009, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency was informed about it at the press-service of the Commercial Sea Port of Odesa.

According to their press-service, the volume of cargo transshipments made 20 million 550 thousand 700 tonnes over the period of January-September 2009, which is 5 million 740 thousand 100 tonnes or 21.8 percent less then in January-September 2008. The volume of transshipments of dry cargoes through the nine-month period made 12 million 160 thousand 400 tonnes decreasing by 910 thousand 700 tonnes or 7 percent compared to the same period in 2008. The volume of liquid cargoes during the sated period made 8 million 390 thousand 300 which is 4 million 829 thousand 400 tonnes less than during the same period in 2009.

INFORMATION: GE Commercial Sea Port of Odesa is situated in the south-western part of Odesa bay on artificially made territory of 109.5 hectares area. The enterprise’s facilities allow processing more than 14 million tons of dry and 24 million tons of bulk cargo annually. The vessels of the length up to 270 metres and the draught under 13 metres are operated in the port. The total length of the berthage is more than 8 kilometres.
