ODESA, OCTOBER, 14th, 2009, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Through the period of January-September 2009 the cargo turnover at Odesa railway has decreased by 24.2 percent compared to the same period in 2008, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The Agency was informed about it today 14 October at the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine.

According to their data, since the beginning of the year the cargo turnover at the Odesa Railway has decreased by 24.3 percent.

The amount of cargo shipments through the period of January-September became 39.8 percent lower.

They also added at the committee, the amount of passengers during the stated period became 3.9 percent lower as well.

INFORMATION: Odesa Railway is one of the oldest in Ukraine. Regular transportations started 4 (17) October 1865. The railway line Odesa-Kyiv was established in 1870 and other lines existing in the Russian Empire. The share of Odesa Railway in the total cargo turnover in Ukraine is almost 20 percent and 16 percent of the total passenger flow.
