The yacht Ivanois having set sails on Odesa’s 215th anniversary visits Crozet and Kerguelen isles

ODESA, JANUARY, 18th, 2010, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – The crew of Ivanois sailing round the world visited Crozet and Kerguelen isles being a part of the Southern French Territories, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency was informed about it today 18 January at the Odesa City Council Administration of Information.

According to them, in the framework of the city’s 215th Birthday celebration, festive ceremony of Ivanois cruiser sports yacht for a world tour took place at Odesa’s Sea Passenger Terminal. The tour is dedicated to Odesa’s Birthday and is aimed to improve Odesa’s international image and relations with the partner and sister cities.

The yacht is to proceed the following route: Mediterranean countries, Gibraltar Strait, Canary Isles, British Isles, Kerguelen Isle (France), Indian Ocean, New Zealand, Ushuaia (Argentina), Saint Helen’s Isle, Azores, Gibraltar, Mediterranean region and the Black Sea.

The main ports to be visited by the yacht are Odesa’s sister and partner cities: Genoa, Marseilles, Valencia, Varna, Constanta, Nicosia, Piraeus, Split and Istanbul.

The crew of Ivanois sailing round the world visited Crozet and Kerguelen isles being a part of the Southern French Territories (TAAF: Terres Australes et Antarctiques Francaises) on December 30, 2009 – January 5, 2010 and January 11 – 17 accordingly.

There are no constant inhabitants on these isles – only the Frenchmen who arrive here for business and scientists from IPEV (Institut Polaire Francais – Paul Emile Victor) and meteorologists from Meteo France.

The Captain of the yacht Stanislav Trizna emphasized, “Our crew is admires these pople working at these isles, their culture of mutual help and skill to live as a singe friendly collective”.
