MYKOLAIV, JULY 22nd, 2010, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – EU/UNDP Community Based Approach to Local Development Project (CBA) is to be extended this year, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.
The agency has been informed about it today 22 July at Mykolaiv Regional State Administration.
As they informed, Regional Coordination Council of EU/UNDP Community Based Approach to Local Development Project held a sitting, yesterday 21 July. The participants of the sitting were Vice Governor of Mykolaiv Oblast Mr Viacheslav Rukomanov, Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council Mrs Tatiana Demchenko, UN International Project Manager Mr Jasingh Sah and coordinator in Ukraine Mrs Olena Rudich.
The project has been financed by the European Commission (EUR 12 million) within the framework of the EU Technical Aid and co-financed by the UNDP (EUR 1 million 300 thousand) since 2008 in Ukraine. Thus the project’s budget makes EUR 13 million 300 thousand.
This project aims to facilitate, at local level, a favourable environment intended for economic development and social satiability. Small-scale initiatives have been developed and implemented in all Ukrainian regions, employing mechanisms of co-financing between the society, central and local authorities, donor community and private sector.
The project priorities are: healthcare (support to the network of first-aid stations), energy efficiency (measures to provide energy conservation, increase of consumption of renewable power resources), environmental protection and improvement (recycling of wastes, pesticides neutralization), water supply, communal (school) transport.
The project is being implemented in 8 pilot districts (44 village councils) of the Mykolaiv Oblast. The districts were selected in 2008, recommendations of the Regional Council and Regional State Administration were taken into consideration.
The overall budget of the micro projects makes UAH 7 million 300 thousand 696, where the contribution of the community organizations, contribution of the local budget – UAH 3 million 21 thousand 220, and the share of the EU/UNDP – UAH 3 million 587 thousand 942. 23 objects under the project have been finished and delivered.
