Delta-Pilot to take up MERS’s duties as to providing safety and rescue at sea

MYKOLAIV, OCTOBER 14th, 2010, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Delta-Pilot will take up the functions of Marine Emergency Rescue Service as to providing safety and carrying out rescue operations at sea, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency has been informed about it today, 14 October, at the press service of Delat-Pilot.

2 ships belonging to the company will have been given to Delta-Pilot by the end of this year and thus the rescue fleet will number 5 ships. In addition, Delta-Pilot will be provided with high-speed cutters and helicopter pads.

MERS has not tugged a single ship of the port’s territorial waters over 10 years. The first training was held only two weeks ago. The Service does not have specialized rescue fleet, therefore the Ministry of Transport and Communications has made a decision to give these functions to GE Delta-Pilot.

INFORMATION: GE Delta-pilot was founded under the order of the Ministry of transport of Ukraine dated 04.02.1998. Its aim is to improve conditions of navigation protection, human life protection at sea and the environment in the territorial sea of Ukraine and in concordance with the requirements of international agreements and conventions, streamlining of the structure of marine pilot services in the north-western part of the Black Sea. The company employs 1 thousand 200 people.
