ODESA, NOVEMBER 24th, 2010, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine intends to improve navigation conditions on the Danube, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency has been informed about it today, 24 November, at the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine.

According to their information, the ministry intends to provide a number of changes as to navigation on Ukrainian part of the Danube. In particular they are planning to unify the navigators’ IDs, use modern navigation and connection systems as well as specify the parameters of the navigation channel.

All this is necessary to ensure safe navigation on the Danube both in present conditions and for the future.

This decision was mad in Budapest, Hungary, at the sitting of the Danube Commission.

In charge for the delegation from Ukraine was Head of UkrMorRichFlot Illia Tykhonov. The delegation also included representatives of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping, Ukrrichflot, Odesa National Maritime Academy and Inspection for Training and Certification of Seafarers.

The head and members of the delegation expressed their readiness to develop navigation and connection systems so that they meet the Danube Commission requirements.

In addition, the members of the delegation informed the participants of the meeting and the members of the Danube Commission of the incident that happened in Romania with a ship belonging to Ukrainian Danube Shipping (the robbery).

Ukrainian party suggested crews should be prepared to withstand such actions and defend their vessel and emergency reporting mechanisms should be developed.

Representatives of Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Russia, Romania, Serbia and Slovakia as well as representatives of the United Nations European Economic Commission, the European Commission, and Central Rheine Navigation Commission.
