Odesa University ex-Rector becomes an Optical Society of America member

ODESA, APRIL 2nd, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — The ex-Rector of Odesa National Mechnikov University has become a member of the Optical Society of America, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency has been informed about it yesterday, 1 April, at the press office of the University.

According to their information, Professor Valentin Smyntyna has become a member of the Optical Society of America (OSA). Prof Smyntyna is the author of the unique method of creating microelectronic gas sensors examining the atmosphere for presence toxic and harmful substances in it. He is also the author of over 400 research works and 12 patents. He is the editor of the Photoelectronics and Odesa National University Newsletter.

INFORMATION: Founded in 1916, The Optical Society (OSA) was organized to increase and diffuse the knowledge of optics, pure and applied; to promote the common interests of investigators of optical problems, of designers and of users of optical apparatus of all kinds; and to encourage cooperation among them. The purposes of the Society are scientific, technical and educational. The Optical Society brings together optics and photonics scientists, engineers, educators, and business leaders. OSA's membership totals more than 16,000 individuals from over 100 countries. Approximately 49 percent of the Society's members reside outside the United States.
