ODESA, MAY 11th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — People’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Lytvyn’s Bloc, First deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee for Security and Defence Sergiy Grynevetskyy says Ukraine’s relations with one economic union or another should based on its benefit, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The MP has stated it today, 11 May, at the Parliamentary Hearings.

“Ukraine’s relations with one economic union or another should based on its benefit. Unfortunately, in the debate about the free trade zone with the European Union and joining the Customs Union political arguments outweigh the economic calculations”, the politician said.

“The reasons for our uncertainty lie in the absence of a clear and legitimate state development strategy and its international behaviour. So far, the country's foreign policy is subject to the decision of the tactical questions of the day, resulting in the impression that every time we are building a foreign policy on a clean sheet, with no guidance or experience”, said the deputy.

“This is because we still have not answered the key constitutional question: what state is it we want to build and what its structure will be like, the form of government, the political regime”, added S. Grynevetskyy.
