Italian investor offers to open a charitable canteen for 1000 people in Odesa

ODESA, JUNE 16th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — An Italian investor (an international charitable foundation) offers to open a charitable canteen for 1000 people in Odesa, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency has been informed about it today 16 June at the Odesa City Council Administration for Information.

According to the Administration, yesterday 15 June, a meeting of the standing committee of Odesa City Council on Social Policy and Labour, which was attended by Director of the Department of Labour and Social Policy, the Odesa City Council Elena Kitayskaya and Victor Stankevich, president of the Charitable Fund of Social Protection “Veteran”.

The main point for the commission was to discuss the issues of organization of hot meals at the “Veteran” canteens to needy citizens.

According to Mrs Kitayskaya, about 2 thousand people currently have an opportunity to eat at these canteens, which are run by four private catering companies. Each canteen reports monthly to the Department of Labour and Social Policy about the number of poor people served. The financing of soup kitchens was also discussed.

Director of International Relations Department of Odesa City Council Svetlana Boeva informed about proposals from an Italian investor (an international development charity) to organize a soup kitchen providing hot meals for a thousand people belonging to disadvantaged groups. The deputies familiarized with the set of documents and recommended that the Department of International Relations should study the matter in detail and negotiate the conditions directly with the investor. The Council will return to this issue after detailing the investor’s conditions and offers.

Also, the committee agreed to amend the Regulations of the Municipal Institution “Regional Centre of Social Service Suvorov district of Odesa”.
