Oka Shipyard commissions the seventh RSD44 Dry Cargo Vessel Captain Afanasiev designed in Odesa

ODESA, SEPTEMBER 14th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Oka Shipyard commissions the seventh RSD44 Dry Cargo Vessel Captain Afanasiev designed by Marine Engineering Bureau, Odesa, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Accord9ing to their information, today, 14 September, Oka Shipyard launched the seventh RSD44 dry-cargo ship of Volga Max class Captain Afanasiev, DWT in the river — about 5 thousand 540 tons, Customer — JSC Volga Shipping.

The new series was designed to replace the foundation of today-s river dry cargo fleet — the Volga-Dons and Volga, a total of 10 vessels is to be built.

The new RSD44 Volga Max dry cargo ships (length 138.9 m, breadth 16.5 m, draught 5 m, coaming height 2.2 m) are intended for transport on inland waterways of the Russian Federation general, bulk, wood and oversized cargo, grain, lumber, potash and fertilizer, sulphur, coal, paper, building materials, steel products, as well as up to 140 containers.

INFORMATION: OJSC Marine Engineering Bureau was registered on March, 23rd, 1995 in Odesa, Ukraine. It was founded by a group of scientists of the Shipbuilding Department, Odesa National Maritime University. OJSC Marine Engineering Bureau works out pre-contract classification projects, projects of “conversion”, upgrade and renewal of sea vessels for internal and mixed journeys. They also prepare projects for increasing carrying and container capacities of ships and other related work.
