Volga Shipping accepts the eighth RSD44 vessel — Captain Yurov to exploitation

ODESA, NOVEMBER 19th, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Volga Shipping has accepted the eighth RSD44 vessel — Captain Yurov (designed by Marine Engineering Bureau, Odesa) to exploitation, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of Marine Engineering Bureau informed today, 19 November.

According to the press service, 18 November, Volga Shipping Company accepted to exploitation the eighth dry-cargo ship project (RSD44) of Volga Max class Captain Yurov (deadweight in the river — 5540 tons). All the eight vessels were laid this year.

The construction has been fulfilled by Oka shipyard, Russia.

The new RSD44 dry cargo ships are intended for carriage of general, bulk, Forest and oversized cargo, grain, lumber, potash and fertilizer, sulphur, coal, paper, building materials, steel products, as well as up to 140 containers by inland waterways of the Russian Federation.

The operation of the vessels also provides for the Volga-Don Ship Canal (VDSK), the Volga-Baltic Canal, the Azov Sea to the port of Kavkaz in the Gulf of Finland. They can freely pass under the Neva bridges in the area of St. Petersburg and Rostov under the railway bridge (Rostov-on-Don).

INFORMATION: OJSC Marine Engineering Bureau was registered on March, 23rd, 1995 in Odesa, Ukraine. It was founded by a group of scientists of the Shipbuilding Department, Odesa National Maritime University. OJSC Marine Engineering Bureau works out pre-contract classification projects, projects of “conversion”, upgrade and renewal of sea vessels for internal and mixed journeys. They also prepare projects for increasing carrying and container capacities of ships and other related work.
