Oka Shipyard launches the ninth RSD44 dry-cargo vessel designed in Odesa

ODESA, NOVEMBER 22nd, 2011, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Oka Shipyard has launched the ninth RSD44 dry-cargo vessel designed by Marine Engineering Bureau, Odesa, Conetxt-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The agency has been informed at the company’s press service today, 22 November.

According to the press service, today 22 November, Oka Shipyard, Russia, has launched the ninth dry cargo ship (project RSD44) of Volga Max class Captain Shumilov, deadweight in the river — 5540 m.

The vessel was constructed for JSC Volga Shipping Company.

The vessels of the series commissioned earlier — Captain Ruzmankin, Captain Zagryadtsev, Captain Krasnov, Captain Gudovich, Captain Sergeev and Captain Kadomtsev have been used by Volga Shipping to transport bulk cargoes.

The series under the project RSD44 sets records not only by the rapidity of their construction, but also by deadweight in the river at 3.6 m draught making 5540 tons.

In total, the series will include 10 vessels, during the first stage of construction.

The operation of these vessels also provides for the Volga-Don Ship Canal, the Volga-Baltic Canal, the Azov Sea to the port of Kavkaz in the Gulf of Finland.

INFORMATION: OJSC Marine Engineering Bureau was registered on March, 23rd, 1995 in Odesa, Ukraine. It was founded by a group of scientists of the Shipbuilding Department, Odesa National Maritime University. OJSC Marine Engineering Bureau works out pre-contract classification projects, projects of “conversion”, upgrade and renewal of sea vessels for internal and mixed journeys. They also prepare projects for increasing carrying and container capacities of ships and other related work.
