SSU: Together with the EU, we are ready to search and to implement the most effective mechanisms of counteracting cross-border threats

ODESA, FEBRUARY 24th, 2012, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Deputy Head of the Chief Administration for Organized Crime and Corruption, Security Service of Ukraine Pavlo Kravchenko says together with the EU, Ukrainian law enforcement organs are ready to search and to implement the most effective mechanisms of counteracting cross-border threats, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Mr Kravchenko stated today, 24 February, during the fifth Tri-Lateral meeting of the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) to Moldova and Ukraine and the security services of both countries, in Odesa.

“The meeting we had today once again proved that law enforcement and intelligence services of Ukraine, Moldova and the European Union share the same priorities aimed at enhancing security at the national, regional and European levels. Together with the EU, we are ready to search and to implement the most effective mechanisms of counteracting cross-border threats,” Mr Kravchenko said.

He thanked the Mission for the technical assistance and advice provided to Ukraine that aims to improve the professional level of law enforcement and specialized agencies, as well as their approximation of European standards.

INFORMATION: The EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) was launched on 30 November 2005 at the joint request of the Presidents of the Republic Moldova and Ukraine. EUBAM is an EU mission fully funded by the European Union. It is an advisory, technical body. It has no executive powers. The Mission aims to make a sustainable contribution to the delivery of good quality border and customs services to the citizens and companies of Moldova and Ukraine to facilitate contacts and trade.
