ODESA, MARCG 29th, 2012, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — US Coastguard delegation has visited the Port of Yuzhny, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The port’s press service informed today, 29 March.

According to the press service, the visit took place within the framework of bilateral international cooperation of Ukraine, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Coast Guard. The main purpose of the joint work of US and Ukrainian specialists is to exchange experience in the international port security.

US coastguard officers visit the port to get acquainted with the system of organization to ensure the security of ships sailing international waters and port facilities. Also, the experts talked about the port embedded in the enterprise of modern security systems. Some achievements in this sphere will be borrowed from the foreign experts.

“We are very pleased to see how much attention the Government of Ukraine and, in particular, the port of Yuzhny is paying to maritime security. The system of multi-level security and the security model of the interaction of the port with other government agencies and relevant services of the port area — this is the best experience, we’ll take it to back to country and share with other countries”, said the head of the American delegation, James Bradshaw.

The press service noted, that the US Coast Guard’s positive assessment of the level of security in Yuzhny can bring practical results for the vessels handled at the port.

“Those ships, which are processed in Yuzhny, after a while proceed to the United States, where they are less controlled because their service knows that the port Yuzhny provides high level of security. Such cooperation is necessary for the development of international trade and navigation”, said director of DP Maritime Security Agency Viacheslav Voloshin.

Summing up the meeting, deputy head of the port of Yuzhny for Safety Yaroslav Nikulin said that the next stage of cooperation with American colleagues will be training of specialists in US ports.

“The meeting was very productive. We have demonstrated the system that is currently implemented in the enterprise, received recommendations for its improvement. There are some constructive suggestions, which we are ready to introduce in the near future to our guests”, said Mr Nikulin.
