Olga Kharlan wins bronze medal in fencing

MYKOLAIV, JANUARY 29th, 2013, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― Mykolaiv’s Olga Kharlan has won the bronze medal in the women's fencing at the World Cup in London, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine reported today, 29 January.

According to the press service, our athletes took two medals in the female saber (bronze and gold) at the World Cup in London.

First the fencer Olga Kharlan got on the podium in the individual round. Olympic champion in Beijing 2008 and bronze medalist in London 2012 easily overcame Davina Hirzmann, German, ― 15:3 and Sevil Bunyatova, Azerbaijan, ― 15:5. The same scenario with Li Fei, China, ― 15:6. In the 1/8 finals Olga won Gioia Marzocca, Italy ― 15:11.

But in the fight for the finals Olga Kharlan lost to Irene Vecchi, Italy, who won the tournament ― 14:15. The silver medal went to Russia's Yekaterina Dyachenko, and the second bronze medal to polka Aleksandra Socha.

Besides, in the team championship Ukraine confident defeated Mexico (45:24), China (45:29), Germany (45:34) and Russia (45:31). The silver medal went to Russia and bronze to Poland.
