ODESA, FEBRUARY 7th, 2013, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― 10th Anniversary of sending the first container train “Viking” has been celebrated at Odesa Railway, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of Odesa Railway reported today, 7 February.

According to the press service, Odesa railway employees celebrated the 10th Anniversary of sending the first container train “Viking”. For all period of the shipment more than 35 thousand 700 containers were sent there and back (55 thousand 635 TEU). In January of the current year the amount of the transportation was 208 containers. It is 3.5 times more than previous year.

During 12 months of 2012 from the stations of Odesa-Port, Illichivsk, Illichivsk-Paromnaya and Odesa-Lesky 260 trains of “Viking” were sent, which include more than 2 thousand containers (3 thousand 539 TEU). Total number of operating platforms were 1 thousand 730 wagons.

The press service reminded, the combined train Viking is a joint project of Lithuanian, Belarusian and Ukrainian railways, seaport cargo companies, and Klaipėda, Illichivsk and Odesa seaports. The train carries 20 and 40-foot containers as well as semitrailers and trailer-trains.

In 2009, the Commission of the European Council of Transport recognized train “Viking” the best European project.
