The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation computerizes five children’s libraries in Odesa

ODESA, FEBRUARY 20th, 2013, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― Five children's libraries in Odesa will receive free computer equipment for the provision of additional information services for Odesa students by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Odesa City Council Information Office reported today, 20 February.

According to the information, centralized library system for children within the jurisdiction of the Culture and Tourism Dept of Odesa City Council took part in the competition, which was held jointly with the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Shevchenko Library Association, the Mission of the U.S. Agency for International Development in Ukraine (USAID), the National Parliamentary library of Ukraine with the B³bl³om³st programme on the receiving the grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

38 Ukrainian libraries for children, including five children's libraries in Odesa are among the winners. They will be given the computer equipment and Internet access.

INFORMATION: The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the largest non-profit in the world, is focused on the belief that every life has equal value. The foundation’s main focus is on education, health care, and ending poverty. In global health, the foundation targets diseases and health conditions that cause the greatest illness and death in developing countries, yet receive little attention and resources.

The Bibliomist programme is helping Ukrainian libraries better serve their communities through a countrywide system of public internet access in libraries.
