ODESA, MARCH 7th, 2013, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― Information campaign “We want to live in a healthy region!” developed by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Ukraine has been launched in Odesa region, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of WWF in Ukraine reported today, 7 March.

According to the information, 40 teachers of biology, natural history and heads of environmental study groups of Ismail, Kiliya, Reni and Bolgrad districts participated in the set up training, from which the campaign started.

During the training on the basis of Izmail station of young naturalists, teachers familiarized with the guidelines for the extra-curricular activities on the environment, promotion of knowledge on environmental issues in the region and attraction of students to their solving. After the workshop, each teacher received so-called “information box”.

As the representative of WWF Ekaterina Kurakina noted, “now almost no projects aimed at the development of environmental awareness of children, school programmes contain mainly general information that is not related to a specific region. No practical environmental training component of school materials, often outdated and do not provide information on new trends and concepts — such as, for example, the “ecological track”. The material base of regional schools unable to print their own information and visual aids, to organize tours, to participate in environmental actions. Information campaign “We want to live in a healthy region!” sets the aim to fill these gaps in practical environmental education of students.”

Another component of the campaign is to hold actions of the cleaning of natural objects by each school.
