ODESA, MARCH 19th, 2013, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― The 107th Anniversary of the establishment of submarine forces as part of the Navy celebrated in Odesa, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The media-centre of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reported today, 19 March.

As it was noted, the celebration of the Submariner Day was started on the Walk of Fame in the Central Park of Culture and Rest named after Taras Shevchenko. Veterans, pupils and students, representatives of state authorities and local authorities, public organizations gathered there.

The veteran submariners told about the features of the service in submarines, the heroic destiny of rear-admiral Nikolay Lunin and Captain 3rd rank Aleksandr Marinesco. They shared memories of their own military routine while serving in the submarine naval forces.

At the conclusion of the meeting the audience laid flowers to the Monument of the Unkown Sailor.

During the week in the Odesa schools and stationed in the garrison military units it is scheduled various special events dedicated to honouring veterans-submariners.
