Opinion: Development of the Budapest Memorandum will build confidence between Ukraine and Russia
16:32 / 25.06.2013

ODESA, JUNE 25th, 2013, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― Member of Parliament, the Chairman of the Sub-committee on social protection of servicemen, their families, and military pensioners of the Committee on National Security and Defence Sergiy Grinevetskiy has stated, that the signing of a new document in the development of the Budapest Memorandum will be a real step towards building confidence between Ukraine and Russian Federation, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Grinevetsky expressed it today, 25 June, speaking at a conference held in Moscow on current issues of Russian-Ukrainian relations.

In July 2010, the Verkhovna Rada voted for the resolution “Non-nuclear status of Ukraine ― real guarantees” in which the deputies appealed to the legislative bodies of the United States, Great Britain, France, Russia and China to support the initiative of conclusion new agreements between guarantor states and Ukraine. Such an agreement would have to be a logical development of the Budapest Memorandum on December 5, 1994,” he noted.

In my view, the signing of a new document in the development of the Budapest Memorandum would be a real step towards the strengthening of confidence between our two countries. It would also allow to solve the problem of integration on a new level,” Sergiy Grinevetskiy added.
