Odesa environmentalists discuss the state of Tylihul Estuary

ODESA, OCTOBER 23rd, 2013, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE ― Odesa scientists have discussed in Venice the state of Tylihul Estuary and other European lagoons, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of the Odesa State Environmental University noted yesterday, 22 October.

According to the press service, the fifth meeting of the consortium of the project “Integrated water resources and coastal zone management in European lagoons in the context of climate change ― LAGOONS” under the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7) took place 7-10 October in Venice at the Institute of Marine Sciences ― National Research Council in Italy.

During the meeting, the scientists from Italy, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Norway, the UK, Poland, Russia and Ukraine discussed the results of the previous stages of the work. LAGOONS project investigates the changes in the ecological state of the four European lagoons, namely: Mar Menor (Spain), Ria de Aveiro (Portugal), Tylihul Estuary (Ukraine) and Vistula (Poland/Russia) in the context of current climate changes, as well as developing scenarios for the future.

The press service added that a group of scientists, which consisted of professors and graduate students of the Odesa State Environmental University, took an active part in the event. Ukrainian side presented the results of the analysis of projected posture of Tylihul Estuary, suggested the possible scenarios of development of the ecological system.
