Odesa students visit Poland within international project

ODESA, JULY 7th, 2014, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Students of Odesa school ¹121 have taken part in the Polish-German-Ukrainian project, dedicated to the memory of the tragic events of World War II, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

Odesa City Council Information Department noted today, 7 July.

According to the Department, in June, students from Poland (complex of schools ¹2, Wieluń), Germany (gymnasium, Varzi) and Ukraine (school ¹121, Odesa) took part in the Polish-German-Ukrainian project dedicated to the memory of the tragic events of World War II. The meeting was held in the ancient Polish city Wieluń.

The tasks of the event are: the integration of European youth; formation of historical memory as a multidimensional problem without claiming categorical judgments; development of tolerance; deepening knowledge of foreign languages; familiarization with the cultural and historical heritage of Poland.

Organizers developed an extensive program for the participants. On the first day of the project students from Poland, Germany and Ukraine took part in the happenings (theatrical momentary actions based on improvised with active participation of the audience), which was held at the monument “Eternal Love” in Wieluń.

The participants also visited the concentration camp “Auschwitz” (Auschwitz), where during the war according to various estimates from 1.5 to 4 million people died.

Students, along with an extensive cultural and educational program, participated in recreational activities. Project participants were floated on rafts on the Dunajec River, walking in the mountains, and also visited the water park. In addition, the children visited the world’s oldest salt mine in Wieliczka, which is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and the main center of pilgrimage and worship of the Virgin Mary, where the famous icon of the Black Madonna – Czestochowa is presented. During a tour of Krakow students acquainted with the history and sights of the city.
