14:48 / 08.10.2014

ODESA, OCTOBER 8th, 2014, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE – Speaker of the Special OSCE monitoring mission Michael Botsyurkiv has noted that the OSCE observation mission in Ukraine extended for another 6 months, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent noted.

The speaker mentioned today, 8 October, during the press conference in Odesa.

“Our mandate has been lasted for 6 months. At the moment our mission extended for another 6 months by the decision of all 57 countries participating in the mission. In our mandate, there are two main points: to observe and inform the participating countries about the results of our observations, as well as facilitate a dialogue. Also, we are monitoring the humanitarian situation with immigrants from the East, the issues related to security and human rights. At the moment, we plan to present the mission on the territory of 10 cities and expand the number of observers to 300 people,” he noted.

Deputy Head of the Special OSCE monitoring mission Alexander Hug, in turn, said: «We have the ability to increase the number of observers to 500 people. And now the mission decided to extend the staff. Most of them will be directed to the east of the country — 350 of 500 people. I want to emphasize that the observer mission will continue throughout Ukraine, including Odesa.”
