ODESSA, FEBRUARY 25th, 2015, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — In 2014, the share of the Yuzhny Port had handled 69% of the total processing cargo by the ports of the country, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The press service of the Administration of the Ports of Ukraine noted today, 25 February.

According to the information, the index of Ukrainian iron ore exports in the 12 months of this year grew by 12.7%, while imports decreased by 16%. Significant growth of exports in this industry segment is associated with an increase in imports of iron ore in China. The experts also concluded that the decline in iron ore prices, which fell by 40% this year and 5-year low of less than USD 80 per ton, resulting in the suspension of the work of Chinese mines, forcing metallurgical plants to buy imported raw materials. In this regard, as the main importer of Ukrainian iron ore is China, export of ore from the sea ports of Ukraine should not be reduced in the near future.

Thus, last year Yuzhny port handled over 24 million 375 thousand 270 tons or 69% of the total transshipment port in the country of ore cargoes.

Ilyichivsk port handled 2 million 437 thousand 100 tons, it is 7% of the total; Odessa sea port handled 1 million 78 thousand 200 tons.
