KHERSON, MARCH 12th, 2015, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Representatives of Lithuania have presented a development project of Kherson sea port to Kherson Mayor Volodymyr Mikolaenko, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The Office of Public Relations of Kherson City Council noted today, 12 March.

According to the information, events on the 25th Anniversary of the restoration of independence of Lithuania were held yesterday in Kherson. Minister Plenipotentiary of Embassy of Lithuania in Ukraine Jonas Danilyauskas and Commercial Attaché of the Embassy of Lithuania in Ukraine Rimantas Shegzhda visited Kherson on this day. They passed the documents prepared by experts of the sea port of Klaipeda for the development of Kherson port.

As noted by R. Shegzhda last fall during a joint briefing Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania Viktor Popov and Mayor Volodymyr Mikolaenko outlined a number of areas of partnership development and implementation of joint projects between the city and the structures of the Republic of Lithuania. One of the issues was the need to maximize the use of existing experience of Lithuanian companies related to their reform, increase their efficiency, and optimize relationships with municipal authorities. In particular, among the enterprises of Kherson, which can become a very important experience of their Lithuanian colleagues, was named Kherson Sea Trading Port.

“«In Lithuania, there is Klaipeda port, which in the 90s was in a similar state as Kherson port. Over the years the port of Klaipeda had serious structural reforms. Now it is the most effective enterprises of Klaipeda, providing about 40% of revenues in the municipal budget,” said the Commercial Attaché of the Embassy of Lithuania.

The next result of effective cooperation with Kherson became Klaipeda Sea Port Development Project to the Kherson Commercial Sea Port, which R. Shegzhda solemnly handed the mayor of Kherson.

R. Shegzhda also noted that the Lithuanian side is ready to assist in the implementation of the proposed “road map” for reform of Kherson sea port.
