ODESSA, MARCH 20th, 2015, CONTEXT-PRICHERNOMORIE — Official opening of the Honorary Consulate of Latvia scheduled on April 24 in Odessa, Context-Prichernomorie correspondent reports.

The Information Department of Odessa City Council noted today, 20 March.

According to the information, today, March 20, in the small hall of the Odessa City Council the vice-mayor of Odessa Zinaida Tsvirinko met with representatives of diplomatic missions of Lithuania and Latvia, as well as businessmen and journalists of these countries. The meeting was attended by heads of relevant departments of the City Council and representatives of airlines “Ukraine International Airlines”.

Welcoming the audience in the hall Mrs Tsvirinko noted the dynamic development of relations between Ukraine and the Baltic countries. Vice Mayor stressed the importance of developing economic, cultural and tourist relations with the cities of Odessa, Lithuania and Latvia.

“Since 2004, Odessa has successfully developed partnerships with the Lithuanian city of Klaipeda. We are proud of our joint project — container train “Ilyichivsk/Odessa — Klaipeda — Odessa/Ilyichivsk”, which in 2009 was recognized as one of the best European projects. I think we still have a lot of similar successful projects, which will contribute to the planned opening of direct communication Odessa — Vilnius on June 26, 2015,” she noted.

In turn, guests thanked the hosts for their warm welcome and expressed readiness for further close cooperation with Odessa. Thus, the Latvian Honorary Consul in Odessa said that on April 24, 2015 the official opening of Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Odessa is scheduled. He mentioned that it will contribute to the deepening of cooperation in various fields.
