Odessa, 03 AUGUST 2016, CONTEXT-Prichernomorie -- The share of the Odessa port in container handling among all sea ports of Ukraine reached almost 80%, the correspondent of IA «Context-Prichernomorie» reports.

It was reported to the agency today, on August 3, by the press service of the Odessa Sea Port.

According to the press service, during 7 months of 2016 at the container berths of the Odessa port was handled a total of 296 vessels (42 more compared with 7 months of 2015) and handled 269 thousand 464 TEU, that is by 29.2% more than in the same period last year and 12.8% more than in the same period of 2014.

And the share of the Odessa port in container handling all Ukraine seaports has reached almost 80%.

The press-service of the port stressed that the construction and development of two modern container terminals, which lead their operations on 4 berths, allows to take under the processing at the same time 4 container ships of different size immediately after approach, that eliminates the need of idle container ships at anchor waiting for a free berth at the port.

Given that the round trip container may include stops at ports 15-17, elimination of downtime of the ship at the roadstead of the port is a vital element of planning for the global container lines, since this factor is fundamental in the calculation of a clear timetable for the international Maritime routes, and also the timely delivery of goods at the destination.

«In addition, it should be noted that since the beginning of 2016 there is a trend of growth capacity utilization of the new container terminal at the Quarantine Mole. Since the beginning of operation of its berths, have been processed 127 container ships, while for 7 months in 2016 this figure amounted to 85 vessels. State enterprises providing services in the processing of (mooring / lead-out, docking and other operations) vessels, received about 4.6 million US dollars in the form of port charges and fees for the services provided», — added in the press-service.
